The mixed-use project “MALT” is located right in the centre of Mechelen at walking distance of the renovated railway station and in front of the Canal Leuven-Dijle. The industrial site has been abandoned for 7 years after the bankruptcy of INOFER. Today 2 developers, CODIC and PSR Brownfield Developers have joined forces, to redevelop the polluted site. A brownfield covenant by the Flemish government is in place. The heavily polluted site will be remediated in the near future.

This development will be a place to live, work and play as there will be a mix of houses, apartments and offices integrated in a high-end green and low-traffic landscape. The site will have an outdoor gym, petanque, ping-pong tables, a restaurant and coffee bar as well as a rooftop terrace.

The historical Socaré building will regain its original grandeur as it will be restored by Callebaut Architecten. The project will have one mutual underground parking making the whole above ground surface car-free.
