CEO Lloyd Blankfein van zakenbank Goldman Sachs heeft zich teruggetrokken uit een jury van een internationale wedstrijd over het beste businessboek. Veel van de genomineerde boeken gingen over de financiële crisis en de rol van Goldman Sachs.
Dat meldt de gespecialiseerde website Publishers Weekly.
De ‘Business book of the year” wedstrijd is toe aan haar 6de jaargang en wordt georganiseerd door Goldman Sachs en Financial Times.
De reputatie van zakenbank Goldman Sachs heeft door de financiële crisis een ferme knauw gekregen door de jongste financiële crisis. Eerst werden ze nog gelauwerd als een van de weinige instellingen die de crisis heeft zien aankomen en zo gedeeltelijk heeft kunnen vermijden.
Maar snel doken getuigenissen en bewijzen op dat Goldman Sachs terwijl het op een ineenstorten van de huizencrisis aan het speculeren was, nog gretig afgeleide producten van zogenaamde rommelhypotheken mee hielp aan de man brengen.
Producten waarvan de traders van Goldman Sachs op de hoogte waren dat ze op korte termijn fors in waarde zouden afnemen.
Onlangs betaalde Goldman Sachs daar een boete voor aan de Amerikaanse beurswaakhond SEC. Die bedroeg liefst 550 miljoen dollar.
